Currently, a single assessment unit is considered for this species in the Indian Ocean by the IOTC. However, taking into account the updated information regarding swordfish stock structure, as well as the differential CPUE and biomass trends between regions, the Working Group on Billfiishes is considering the feasibility of including a multi-stock assessment in 2023 (IOTC 2021). This profile refers to the Indian Ocean Assessment Unit.
