IDENTIFICATION

SCIENTIFIC NAME(s)

Atheresthes stomias

SPECIES NAME(s)

Arrow-tooth flounder

This fishery has been certified by the Marine Stewardship Council system since May 2010, as part of Alaska flatfish (MSC 2022). The Arrowtooth flounder (Atheresthes stomias)  stock in the Gulf of Alaska is assessed and managed as a single unit in the Gulf of Alaska (NOAA, 2022) and this stock is now evaluated on a quadrennial schedule, with partial assessments in the off-cycle years.

The stock was assessed biennially in previous years, although schedule changes have recently been made in response to the National Stock Assessment Prioritization effort (NOAA, 2023). Full stock assessments update projection model results to recommend harvest levels for the next 2 years.
