SUMMARY

SUMMARY

IDENTIFICATION

SCIENTIFIC NAME(s)

Micropogonias megalops

SPECIES NAME(s)

Bigeye croaker

Locally called "chano" in Mexico, the species Micropogonias megalops is mostly abundant at the northern Gulf of California, with some studies suggesting that it is an endemic species of the region (Rodríguez 2024). More studies are needed for clarifying the species population dynamics (Aragón-Noriega et al. 2015).

No formal assessment is carried out for the species, so its management is based on limited information (Arzola Sotelo 2024) as an associated species of the Gulf corvina Upper Gulf of California fishery (IMIPAS 2023).
