SUMMARY

SUMMARY

IDENTIFICATION

SCIENTIFIC NAME(s)

Penaeus notialis

SPECIES NAME(s)

Southern pink shrimp

Two different units of Southern pink shrimp have been identified by CECAF in Northwestern Africa, one in Mauritania and another one in Senegal-Gambia, although without enough evidence for differentiating biological stocks (FAO 2020). The current record focuses on the Senegal-Gambia assessment unit.

The species is targeted both by artisanal and industrial vessels (Emanuelsson 2008). Artisanal vessels capture the species using local gears called Félé-félé (Cast net) and Mujas (Stow net). The industrial fishery is mainly targeting the species with Beam trawls.
