Shortfin mako Atlantic population structure is unclear although there is evidence of limited mixing between the North Atlantic and the South Atlantic populations (Heist et al. 2011). For both assessment and scientific based management, ICCAT separates the Shortfin mako in a North Atlantic stock and a South Atlantic one  (ICCAT 2019).
