Studies into the stock structure of Pacific cod indicate three distinct stocks in the Karaginsky subzone (61.02.1), Petropavlovsk-Komandor subzone (61.02.2) and the West Bering Sea and Chukotka (61.01 and 67.01) and these are currently assessed as separate stocks (UCSL United Certification Systems Limited 2021) but no assessment is known to be conducted nor studies of stock structure were located for the North Kurils zone (61.03). A TAC is set for catches of Pacific cod in this zone though (Federal Fisheries Agency 2020) so this profile has been structured around the North Kurils as a management unit.
