A study using morphometrics and parasite fauna found significant differences among wahoo from the western Pacific and eastern Pacific Oceans, suggesting multiple discrete phenotypic stocks despite genetic homogeneity (Zischke et al. 2013). Wahoo is caught as bycatch in tuna purse seine and longline fisheries (Pauwels and Fache 2016).
