Distribution of black hakes, Senegalese and Benguela hakes, overlap in Morocco (Manchih et al. 2018). Both are assessed together as 'Merluccius spp.' by the Fishery Committee for the Eastern Central Atlantic, considering the area between Cape Spartel and southern Senegal. The European hake is assessed separately in the same region (FAO 2018).
