Squids caught in Vietnamese waters are not distinguished at the species level in available catch databases, however, the literature indicates that most belong to the family Loliginidae (Doryteuthis spp., Uroteuthis spp., etc.), referred to as inshore squids. The term "nei" was added to the profile name to indicate the multi-species nature of this profile. 

A management unit at the national level is considered to exist for this multispecies squid fishery.
