Spotted weakfish shows high fidelity to estuarine areas. In Florida, there are at least five distinct genetic populations (FFWCC, 2010). The 2011 assessment designates four assessment areas: SE Florida (current profile), NE Florida, NW Florida and SW Florida (Canion and Sempstrott, 2011).
