The blue swimming crab (BSC) can be found throughout the Indo-West Pacific, from tropical to sub-tropical (Ng 1998). In Indonesia, BSC occurs throughout the archipelago. The most complete BSC stock assessment has been conducted in Java Sea (WPP 712) but the Ministry​ of Marine Affairs and Fisheries has developed stock estimates and allowable catch for each fishery management area (FMA, or WPP = Wilayah Pengelolaan Perikanan), including the Aru Bay, Arafuru Sea and Eastern of Timor Sea (WPP-718) (MMAF n.d.).
