SPECIES NAME(s)
Spotted rose snapper, Rose snapper
COMMON NAMES
Spotted rose snapper, Rose snapper
The Spotted rose snapper is distributed from the Gulf of California to Peru (Allen and Robertson, 1994 in (Hernández-Álvarez et al. 2020)). It is present along the entire Tropical Eastern Pacific and was found to have a large genetic diversity but it seems to be only one population along with the entire distribution (Hernández-Álvarez et al. 2020). Lutjanus guttatus is captured mostly in Costa Rica by the artisanal fishery around the Guanacaste and the Nicoya Gulf waters with longlines and gillnets (Araya Umaña and Vasquez Arias 2008). In the Nicoya area, the snapper was the main goal of the bottom longline fishery, with almost 20% of the catches (Araya et al. 2007).
