The stock structure of greater argentine is not known, but life history studies indicate that the Icelandic distribution (ICES Division Va) of the species might constitute a separate stock from that in other areas. It is currently treated as a separate assessment unit but genetic studies over the entire distribution area are needed (ICES, 2008a).
