Atlantic herring
- According to the latest research, there is no genetic differentiation between the Atlantic herring populations of Icelandic and Norwegian waters (Pampoulie et al. 2015).
- The results of a more recent study showed that the four stocks of herring, Norwegian spring-spawning herring (NSSH), Icelandic summer-spawning herring (ISSH), North Sea autumn-spawning herring (NASH) and Faroese autumn-spawning herring (FASH) appeared to be genetically differentiated populations, however, FASH and ISSH showed a lower differentiation. The study aimed to study the genetic population structure of herring in the Faroese and surrounding waters (Kongsstovu et al. 2022).
