Argentine anchovy
The Argentine anchovy (Engraulis anchoita) occurs from Vitoria, off Brazil (20ºS), to Gulf San Jorge, off Argentina (48ºS) (Carvalho and Castello, 2013). Three stocks are identified throughout its distribution range: i) a Brazilian stock – from 20ºS to 28ºS, ii) a Bonaerense stock – from 28ºS to 41ºS, shared by Brazil, Uruguay and Argentina, and iii) a Patagonian stock – from 41ºS to 49ºS (Carvalho and Castello, 2013; Pájaro et al., 2011).
An assessment unit - Bonaerense/North- is undertaken from 34° to 41°S (INIDEP, 2014), within the Argentina-Uruguay Common Fishing Zone (ZCP).
