The Northern Prawn, Western Greenland stock extends into the EEZs of both Greenland and Canada and no agreement is in place for sharing this stock (NAFO, 2022). The stock is distributed in NAFO subarea 1 and the eastern margin of NAFO Division 0A and is assessed as one unit (NAFO, 2020). There are seven genetically distinct populations of P. borealis in the North Atlantic. The population from northwest Greenland was found to be genetically similar to other western populations (Jorde et al. 2015).
