The best available scientific information indicates there is a single stock of mahi mahi in the Atlantic, U.S. Caribbean, and Gulf of Mexico (Mahon and Mahon, 1987; Wingrove, 2000; South Atlantic Fishery Management Council, 2003), contrary to a previous hypothesis of there being two separate Northern and Southern Atlantic stocks (Oxenford and Hunte, 1986).
