The best information currently available indicates that blue marlin constitutes a single worldwide species (Makaira nigricans) and a single stock in the Pacific Ocean. For this reason, statistics on catches are compiled, and analyses of stock status are made, for the entire Pacific Ocean (IATTC 2022). All available fishery data from the Inter-American Tropical Tuna Commission (IATTC) and the Western and Central Pacific Fisheries Commission (WCPFC) were used for the benchmark stock assessment performed by the ISC in 2021 (ISC 2021).
