COMMON NAMES
Merluza peruana (Spanish)
Chilean and Peruvian hakes are currently considered, since recently, two separated species. The latitudinal distribution of Peruvian hake (Merluccius peruanus) (Froese and Pauly 2025) extends from northern Ecuador (01 °N) to central Peru (14 °S). A single stock is considered to exist between the northern limit of Peru (03 °S) and Huarmey (10 °S) (Pitcher and Alheit 1995)(Guevara-Carrasco and Lleonart 2008), which could be altered during El Niño events (Barriga R. et al. 2021).
