There is some uncertainty associated with the stock structure of redfish in this area. Redfish are assessed and managed in the US as one unit (Gulf of Maine-Georges Bank) while those in Canadian waters are assessed and managed separately by Canada (NEFSC, 2008). While some mixing is thought to occur between the two stocks, genetic differences have also been detected (Valentin et al, 2005).
