SCIENTIFIC NAME(s)
Uroteuthis (photololigo) chinensis
SPECIES NAME(s)
Mitre squid
Mitre squid Uroteuthis (Photololigo) chinensis (previously Loligo chinensis) is one of the main squid species caught in Chinese waters, however, no stock structure information could be found. An exploratory stock assessment of this species in Chinese waters was conducted by Wang et al. (2021). However, only a portion of the stock was included in the assessment. Thus, a management unit at the national level is considered for this profile.
Squids caught in Chinese waters are not distinguished at the species level in available catch databases, but the literature indicates that most belong to the family Loliginidae (Doryteuthis spp., Uroteuthis spp., etc.), referred to as inshore squids. Thus, a separate multispecies squid profile was also created to capture these species fisheries in FishSource, Inshore squids nei - China.
