Chile presented a study on secondary catch rates and seabird mortality from 2015-2021 which demonstrated that current mitigation measures in place have improved conditions over the last three years. 31 January 2023 — SUBPESCA Resolution N° 0195-2023 was issued initiating the renewal process for the Chilean Hake Fishery Management Committee; the renewal process remains ongoing. 13 December 2022 — Exempt Decree N° 64-2022 issued establishing the 2023 TAC at 41,484 mt 1 December 2022 — SERNAPESCA has published an update of Chile’s National Action Plan to prevent and deter IUU fishing activity. Improvements in Fishing Practices and Fishery Management	May 23	Verifiable improvement in policy/management and fishing practices 1 May 2023 — Technical Report on discards and incidental catch in the Chilean hake fishery during the 2022 fishing season has been made available; the incidental catch rate for 2022 was estimated to be 0.004 birds/haul (down from 0.007 birds/haul in 2021). 5 July 2022 — Resolution N° 1357-2022 issued which specifies the characteristics, design range and dimensions of the devices for all vessels that use trawl nets as fishing gears. 25 November 2021 — SUBPESCA issued Resolution N° 3120-2021 requiring the mandatory use of exclusion devices to reduce the incidental catch of sea lions in bottom-trawl fisheries 19 October 2021 — SUBPESCA issued Resolutions N° 95-2021 and N° 2812-2021 updating the minimum list of species to be included in the 'Plan for the Reduction of Discards and Incidental Catch' 23 September 2020 — In September 2020, SUBPESCA added to its measures to manage non-target species by establishing the mandatory release of cartilaginous fish in Chilean fisheries, including bottom-trawl fisheries.
