Vessel location data collected between December 2023- May 2024 has been made available via a visual representation. 

A summary of the research plan established between the FIP and Bravijaya University has been made available.

The FIP held a meeting to discuss fostering sustainable fisheries management through collaboration between government, industry, and local communities. It emphasized aligning policies, data collection, and capacity building to support responsible tuna fisheries and other marine resources in the region, in accordance with Indonesian law and the NTT Governor's directive.

Logbook data collection remains underway; an example of logbook records has been made available.

Data collection is now routinely performed using the Perahu app; Perahu is currently utilized by local enumerators for octopus sampling, with 10 individuals randomly sampled during each landing. 

The FIP has held multiple workshops demonstrating the integration of mapping tools into fishing trips in an effort to encourage use of these tools among fishers.

Undana students and enumerators completed habitat characterization research and surveys across several locations. Research findings identified that octopus were found among coral crevices at depths between 3-15 meters down. 

The FIP has provided an update on the VMS trackers currently being used in the octopus fishery. 

The FIP attended a meeting led by the Director of Fish Resources which aimed to address challenges in octopus fisheries. Key issues discussed at the meeting included overfishing, habitat degradation, and regulatory gaps. 

A draft FMP has been made available 

VMS data from July- November has been collected and compiled into a map; the map demonstrates that fishing activity and travel routes are being recorded close to shore. 

The FIP conducted training for 44 fishermen to acquire their Fisherman Skills Certification (SKN) through the Technical Guidance Activity (BIMTEK) which is a legal requirement for all Indonesian fishers. 

The FIP has installed VMS on two vessels and mapping activities are underway.

A catch data dashboard has been created which is populated by data collected including catch size, weight, location, sex and other basic fisheries metrics.

The letter decree no. 5/2023 marks the completion of the formal registration process for the KUB/ Joint Business Group dedicated to octopus fishing in Nanghale. 

The FIP is in the process of formalizing an MoU with Undana University; a proposal has been produced by a student at the university to assess gear configurations and the relative selectivity/ benthic damage associated with them.

The first KUB (fisherman's cooperative) has been established in Nanghale, legalizing fishermen and its bylaws have been made available.
