The FIP has conducted an assessment of compliance with on-board monitoring procedures, achieving 75% compliance in the monitoring system follow-up procedure and 89% in the logbook recording protocol. 

The FIP produced a report on observations across 4 trips from September 9-20 2024; the FIP reported several bycatch interactions with crabs, octopus and moray eels among other species. 

The FIP has developed a proposal for a recovery protocol for eel traps lost in the northern coastal waters of Peru, detailing three methods: the "dragging with grapnel" method, "setting above the lost line," and "using tension to dislodge." Each method is aimed at minimizing loss and improving trap retrieval during fishing operations.

A collaboration agreement has been established between IMARPE and the Peruvian Association of Eel Producers (APPA) to carry out joint activities that promote the sustainability of the fishery.

A research project to develop a protocol to recover lost traps and design biodegradable traps as a measure to mitigate the impact of fishing on the ecosystem has been approved.

The FIP conducted meetings were with PRODUCE and the General Directorate of Policies and Regulatory Analysis of Fisheries and Aquaculture (DGPARPA) to discuss the current status of the FIP and identify areas for improvement in fishery management.

Bycatch and ETP interaction data collected via the monitoring program for the 2022 season has been analyzed and organized into a presentation; the data demonstrates that a high level of incidental catch is being recorded.

On-board monitoring remains ongoing; to-date 140 fishing trips have been monitored. 

A summary of monitoring activities between January 2023- June 2023 has been made available. During this period, 348 trips were conducted, with mackerel being the primary catch.

Between April and October 2023, IMARPE and eel fishery owners conducted the collaborative "Operation Eel II" survey, during which both groups contributed essential data on size structure, reproduction, fishing areas, total catch, CPUE, and composition.

A study to create a trap recovery protocol and a biodegradable trap prototype was initiated in August 2023. 

The FIP has developed an ID guide for commonly encountered species in the fishery 

Ministerial decree Nº 00266-2022-PRODUCE authorized the FIP to conduct a biological survey for the 2022 fishing season.

The FIP held a meeting with other Peruvian FIPs to foster collaboration, share best practices, and discuss challenges and opportunities in fisheries management.

Increase to PI 3.1.2; the management system is considered to have consultation procedures through which it regularly seeks and admits relevant information.

Ministerial resolution No. 00374-2024 has been updated which establishes a legal framework for eel fisheries management that incorporates the development of biological reference points as a basis for the development of control and harvesting rules.

Increase to PI 3.1.3; The FIP received confirmation from the General Directorate of Policy and Regulatory Analysis of Fisheries and Aquaculture (DGPARPA). The General Fisheries Law demonstrates that there are clear long-term objectives for fisheries governance in place. 

Increase to PI 2.2.3;The only secondary species identified from logbook records was the gringo snail, constituting just 0.52% of the total catch. No other secondary species identified. 

Increase to PI 2.1.3; Logbook records have identified primary species as anchoveta and mackerel which are used as bait species.
