A letter of acknowledging the submission of a draft FMP to the MMAF has been made available.

The FIP held their annual Annual Squid FIP stakeholder meeting which focused on  the creation of a squid FMP for WPPNRI 571. The group discussed the importance of sustainable fishing practices, adherence to MSC (Marine Stewardship Council) standards, and ensuring progress in the FIP, with discussions centered on traceability, stock sustainability, environmental impact, and management strategies.

The FIP has produced a technical document outlining species research, habitat studies, and stock assessments in the Malacca Strait, Indonesia. Key findings of biological studies and stock assessments suggest the presence of high biodiversity, with detailed species identification and habitat mapping efforts. 

The FIP has begun to pilot new observer forms to capture data manually following the issuance of regulation 11/2023. 

A draft paper on sea snakes and the role of squid in the food web has been made available; the study suggestst that squid are sensitive to fishing pressure and environmental changes, emphasizing the importance of sustainable management practices.

An end-of-year letter was issued by the government to all national and local institutions to inform them that measurable fishing policies will be postponed until the end of the 2024 year. 

The FIP held a stakeholder meeting to discuss ongoing FIP activities, implementing a quota based system within the fishery and human rights regulations. 

Decree 11/28 issued which establishes regulations for implementing decree 11/2023.

The Indonesian Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries is supporting the Squid FIP, with resource management and dedicated teams

Ministerial decree 43/2024 issued; operational Port Management procedures have been established including: regular registration of fishing vessels, detailed documentation of squid catch and managing fish catch unloading and weighing operations.

The FIP has published an Ecosystem Approach to Fisheries Management (EAFM) on the evaluation of small-scale fisheries management.

MMAF, in collaboration with the FIP, has issued a new version of the Catch Certificate which now captures additional data for wild-caught fisheries. The certificate has been rolled out to all FMAs in Indonesia.
