In February, two FIP meetings were held. The first was to plan improvements and social responsibility steps. The second FIP meeting was about information management with the vessel owners.

The FIP held a meeting to discuss FIP progress and action planning for 2023; in May 2023, the IOTC adopted a conservation measure to protect seabirds and cetaceans from adverse fishing impacts. 

The FIP secretariat compiled pertinent management measures and advice from the IATTC and WCPFC for protecting sharks, sea birds, turtles and non-target catch.

The FIP attended the 14th meeting of the IATTC Scientific Advisory Committee; the 2022 annual observer report for the fishery in Antigua was made available. 

FIP has developed a plan to reduce and reuse plastic out at sea onboard vessels

The FIP held their annual meeting at the beginning of 2023; participants discussed progress being made with safe handling training, a plastics reduction plan and data collection. 

Data on ETP species interactions between November 2022- January 2023 has been made available. While several interactions have been recorded with thresher sharks, no interactions with other sharks, seabirds or turtles have been recorded.
