The FIP has produced a position statement ahead of the 2024 IATTC annual meeting.

The FIP has completed a risk assessment and workplan with the Global Ghost Gear Initiativeon on the risks the fishery poses to abandoned, lost and otherwise discarded fishing gear (ALDFG).

The group is engaged with the ground-truthing group creating the seabird safe longline fishing toolkit. The group met in March 2024 via zoom to provide comments on the toolkit from an industry perspective to help mitigate and reduce the negative impacts fishing has on vulnerable bird species.

The FIP has begun installing EM onboard vessels; currently 5 EM systems have been installed. 

The FIP has produced and sent advocacy letters to all flag states and RMFO ahead of the 2023 WCPFC annual meeting. 

The FIP has sent formal data requests to the flag states to obtain necessary observer data. 

The FIP met with the TFA (Taiwanese Fishery Authority) and the OFDC (Overseas Fisheries Development Council) to discuss observer data collection and ongoing progress related to P3 issues.

The FIP has updated its Fins Naturally Attached policy which highlights and clarifies that shark finning in the fishery is prohibited and sharks must be landed with their fins naturally attached.

A skipper training was organized by Key Traceability in which skippers were trained on species IDs, best practices and mitigation techniques, appropriate data collection methods, electronic monitoring and waste management; 4 skippers in total were trained.

FIP has sent a LOR to the Solomon islands Ministry of Fisheries and Marine Resources requesting observer data that will be used to inform ETP guidance.

KT held a meeting with the Panamanian authorities (ARAP); ARAP expressed their interest in supporting Panamanian fisheries and the two parties have been exchanging information needed to improve Panama scores

The FIP attended and participated in the 100th IATTC annual meeting; the IATTC agreed to establish an EM working group, with goals of improving data collection and oversight of vessels.

The FIP sent position statements out ahead of the 97th IATTC annual meeting

Increase to PI 2.3.3; The fishery has obtained enough information on ETP species to support a strategy to manage impacts on ETP species. 

The FIP has published a bait sourcing policy.

Increase to PI 3.2.1; A management plan for the EEZ‐wide French Polynesian marine managed area has been published, which includes explicit short‐term and long‐term objectives.

The ETP policy has been updated to include seabirds under new protections.

Electronic monitoring project launched; five domestic vessels have recieved em system installs

Increase to PI 3.1.3; the Three Year Audit has been conducted and identifies that under the National Fisheries and Aquaculture Law (2021), Articles 9 and 10 are sufficient clear long-term objectives in place.
