A summary of logbook data has been made available from April 2023- December 2024. 

The FIP met with the Pacific Fisheries Research Directorate of IMIPAS; the group agreed during the meeting that the harvest strategy will undergo a review.

The FIP has developed a monitoring system tailored to the needs of the cooperatives. Members of the community surveillance committees were trained in using the Survey 123 app for monitoring activities, and provided with 9-inch tablets to facilitate their fieldwork.

A database was produced using logbook data from September 2022- February 2024; data on trap bait, ETP species and shark interactions has been made available.

The FIP held a meeting to discuss the results of the updated 2024 stock assessment; concerns were raised about declining lobster stocks, prompting collaboration between IMIPAS and PNO to unify stock evaluation methods and consider implementing legal compliance strategies in the lobster fishery.

Captains and fishers in the lobster fishery were trained to use the Survey 123 app on their personal devices for recording fishing data.

The FIP held a meeting to conduct a review of 2023 activities; updates on resource status and stock assessments were presented, emphasizing the need for urgent measures to prevent overfishing and promoting sustainable practices across various fisheries.

Two technical analyses of the stock status were carried out and the conclusion notes that it's necessary to modify the current rule and unify evaluation methods, reference points, harvesting strategies and the control rule for the northern and southern region. A first draft of the proposed HCR with respective reference points for the fishery has been made available.

Tablets have been provided to fishing organizations, accompanied by field training for personnel conducting surveillance patrols in an effort to digitize community surveillance tours. 

The FIP held informative workshops to demonstrate how to properly record data in the logbooks; data collection and recording have improved and remains underway via the monitoring program.

 The inventory analysis of primary bait species revealed that only three organizations use pelagic species, while the remaining organizations rely on sea roach, clams, and snails for bait. As a result, a preliminary technical report was generated to investigate the origins and stock status of these pelagic species.

PNO has prepared a technical report outlining the key components necessary for creating an exploitation strategy for the red lobster. The report suggests incorporating the local environmental variability in relation to red lobster abundance and highlights the need for additional information to enhance or refine the existing framework of the PMP control rule.

The FIP coordinator sent a letter to the National Commission of Fisheries and Aquaculture requesting information about the number of supervision activities conducted, inspection reports and oversight, examination, and monitoring activities and operations within the red sea urchin fishery.

A summary of the community surveillance report has been made available; over 165 consecutive days, two patrols were conducted daily, resulting in the issuance of four warnings during that period.

A working session took place with fishing organization leaders to negotiate and reach agreements concerning the process of enhancing fishermen's involvement in gathering the necessary fishery information.

The FIP held a meeting to discuss best practices for enhancing community surveillance and the utilization of support tools.

Catch analysis carried out disaggregating the biomass of FIP participants and non-participants for the period of 2000-2021; FIP permit holders reported that their catches represent 51% and 43% of the total registered for the years 2020 and 2021. 

PNO and the fishery producers prepared an official request to initiate the corresponding procedures with CONAPESCA for the installation of the committee.

The FIP has published a stock assessment for the red rock lobster in the Baja California Peninsula.
