3. FIP Implementation	Jun 24	FIP activities undertaken 7 June 2024 — MMAF has reduced the number of observers in Kendari to focus on tuna long-line and transshipment vessels in the Indian Ocean, covering 25 trips in Q1 and Q2 2024. A new cohort of observers will be trained, and the FIP in Kendari aims to collaborate with MMAF to increase observer numbers in the region. 1 December 2023 — The FIP and PPS Kendari continue their cooperation through the use of spotrace units. 1 June 2023 — Between March- December 2022, observers were present on 278 purse seine trips conducted by FIP vessels. In that year, with 92 vessels on the priority list, observer coverage for all FIP vessel trips in 2022 was estimated at a minimum of 11.2%. 1 March 2023 — Regulation No. 11/2023 has been issued which establishes a quota-based system for the fishery. 31 December 2022 — As of December 2022, 68 PS vessels have been equipped with SpotTrace GPS trackers. 1 December 2022 — Since April 2022, 280 observer trips have been conducted; data collection trainings are planned for early 2023 1 November 2022 — The 5th harvest strategy stakeholder workshop was conducted and attended by MMAF, science agencies and tuna fishery stakeholders; the development and consultation of the harvest strategy remains ongoing. 14 October 2022 — Draft analysis of tuna catches, summarizing catch composition and fleet characteristics of tuna fisheries operating in the IAW, is underway. 1 February 2022 — Decree No.121/2021 published; MMAF has published and updated the National Tuna Management Plan 1 January 2022 — A draft debriefing manual is in the process of being developed as a guide for observers 21 November 2021 — FAD research is being carried out; 19 additional PS trips have been covered by onboard observers since the last update 9 November 2021 — The 4th harvest strategy implementation meeting was held at the end of 2021 30 April 2021 — Ongoing logbook data continues to be collected 2 March 2021 — MMAF and CSIRO continue the development process for HS as well as public consultations 1 November 2020 — The WFF Indonesia tuna consortium has met with the MMAF and has started consolidating info and views around the role of Indonesian Archipelagic Fisheries in relation to RFMO requirements 1 November 2020 — E-logbook compliance has been confirmed for participating vessels, and the vessel list has been updated. To date, 21 PS vessel trips have been covered by onboard observers 9 October 2020 — WWF Indonesia have conducted a Best Management Practices Training in Kendari, covering topics such as legal requirements for vessel operations, eLogbook usage and compliance, ETP species, and bycatch mitigation. 1 September 2020 — The FIP has committed to deploy VMS units on all vessels by 2023, and starting in 2021; ongoing discussions will ensue 28 October 2019 — Harvest strategy and Harvest control rule development for yellowfin and Skipjack are well under way, and several stakeholder consultations have taken place. 1 October 2019 — A draft Indonesian Tuna National Management Plan was shared by the MMAF with stakeholders in October, and the final version is planned to be published in May 2020. 5 March 2019 — Stakeholder consultations for the National Tuna Management Plan have started, and gear specific considerations are part of the HS development for Yellowfin Tuna 18 February 2019 — MMAF is actively coordinating and allocating resources between several Indonesian tuna FIPs, and gear specific considerations are part of the HS development for Yellowfin Tuna. 8 January 2019 — The FIP has participated in several meetings aiming to build/strengthen an national tuna management body, as well as a meeting for WPP-based data management.
4. Improvements in Fishing Practices and Fishery Management	Jun 23	Verifiable improvement in policy/management and fishing practices 1 June 2023 — Increase to MSC PI score 1.2.1 & 3.1.1; the harvest strategy has been completed and published. 1 February 2022 — The FIP has begun installing VMS units across the fleet; 12 units have been installed to date. 31 December 2021 — The FIP has adopted an aFAD Management policy, which is now aligned with ISSF requirements. 1 May 2020 — E-logbook compliance has been confirmed for participating vessels, and the vessel list has been updated. 2 observers were placed on PS vessels 6 December 2019 — Increase in BMT score 3.2.2 The “Permen KP 33_2019 Lembaga_Pengelola_Perikanan” has established a non-sectoral working unit that coordinates and evaluates the implementation of fishery management plans and develops recommendations for sustainable fisheries management in the various fishery management areas. 21 January 2019 — MMAF has launched the e-MTRA SDI platform that standardizes data input from port enumerators and other sources managed by external partners.
