The FIP conducted a review of HCRs to illustrate the current measures in place for the different tuna stocks in the Indian Ocean and recommend areas that should be improved.

The FIP has written a letter to the Mozambique fisheries ministry requesting data about P3 indicators. 

The FIP has adopted a Fins Naturally Attached policy that aligns with ISSF and MSC V3. The policy prohibits shark finning across all vessels. 

The FIP submitted a position statement ahead of the 2023 annual session of the IOTC. 

An observer data analysis has been produced using data from May 2019- March 2022; data from the analysis was used to inform the ETP management strategy

Catch composition data has been updated and made available; albacore tuna have been identified as the only primary species

The FIP provided its position statement to the IOTC prior to its May 2022 annual meeting.

FIP is collaborating with WIOMSA; genetic samples of tuna and billfish have been collected from the fishery and have been shared with the group which will aid in forming management recommendations.

FIP is collecting observer data on an ongoing basis which has allowed for catch classification to inform on ETP species and the mahi fishery.

The Mozambique Authority has resumed its observer programme following COVID restrictions

FIP has teemed up with the Western Indian Ocean Marine Science Association (WIOMSA) to promote outreach for the Western Indian Ocean region

FIP attended the annual IOTC meeting in fall of 2020; the FIP provided a position statement detailing their requests for the IOTC including advocating for HCRs in the IO

An assessment of the yellowfin interim rebuilding plan (2016) was conducted prior to the 2019 IOTC meeting and published highlighting results of interim policy.
