The FIP in conjunction with MRAG are currently conducting a research survey on supply chain ALDFG management risks.

FCF also published its 2024 vol.1 engagement letter with the FCF supply chain, this details the specific initiatives related to sustainability include EM, waste management, and bait management. We are working with all vessels to be listed on the ISSF PVR to further show their compliance and we are currently at over 60% of the vessels.

We continue to receive EM data which is being consistently analyzed and added to the EM data analysis, A review of EMS service providers is happening to ensure systems remain at peak performance. Installations continue to occur and will be rolled out across the fleet. In addition, we have received human observer data from Taiwan for the whole Taiwanese element of the FIP. 

We sent IATTC advocacy letters on behalf of the FIP to all flag states and the RFMO detailing our asks and needs of for our fishery to move towards MSC assessment.

The FIP met with the Southern Seabirds Trust and has committed through a signed NDA with them, FCF and the Taiwan Wild bird Federation have jointly launched a port-based project aimed at conducting onboard interviews and visits to understand the seabird mitigation measures and their practices onboard, while providing the most timely guidance. 

The FIP conducted a recent data analysis; the analysis demonstrates that ETP species make up 1% of the total catch of the fishery with sharks recorded as the primary ETP species.

The FIP is engaging with SharkGuard in an effort to participate in a pilot study to reduce shark interactions through SharkGuard technology.

In Q3 2023, FCF hosted a string of events to progress ocean conservation including the Sustainability  Symposium.

The FIP sent a position statement to all flag states and RFMO ahead of the 2023 WCPFC Annual Meeting. 

The FIP has introduced a waste management policy that has been implemented across several vessels. 

The draft Tuna Management and Development Plan for the Solomon Islands is in the final stages of development; implementation of the final plan is in progress. 

The FIP continues to progress with EM installation across the fleet. 

The FIP sent an advocacy letter ahead of the 2023 IATTC Annual Meeting to all the flag states.

The FIP has signed a contract with Satlink to begin EMS installation onboard vessels.

A skipper training was organized by Key Traceability in which skippers were trained on species IDs, best practices and mitigation techniques, appropriate data collection methods, electronic monitoring and waste management; 4 skippers in total were trained. 

The FIP sent an advocacy letter ahead of the 2022 WCPFC to all the flag states.

The FIP has updated its Fins Naturally Attached policy which highlights and clarifies that shark finning in the fishery is prohibited and sharks must be landed with their fins naturally attached.

KT and FCF have hosted two separate meetings to improve engagement with the stakeholders and fishers within the FIP; KT and FCF met with 50 companies in April 2022.

P3 scores have been updated for yellowfin and mahi in Panama; law 204 regulates fishing and aquaculture activities as of March 2021.

South Pacific Albacore Roadmap intersectional working group virtual meeting held

CMM 2015-02: China was noted as priority non-compliant for not limiting the number of Chinese-flagged vessels actively fishing for South Pacific albacore south of 20 south above 2005 or 2000-2004 levels

The "Western and Central Pacific albacore and yellowfin tuna longline Fishery Improvement Project: fleet data collection and reporting improvement plan" has been finalized and is now being implemented.

An initial analysis has been conducted to improve data collection and reporting strategies. 

An assessment was done on China, Taiwan, Solomon Islands and Vanuatu’s compliance with the following measures: CMM 2006-04; CMM 2009-03; CMM 2010-01

Letters sent to NOAA over management of tuna 

New measures were adopted at the 101st meeting of the IATTC including a harvest strategy for North Pacific albacore (including a harvest control rule) as well as interim reference points for skipjack tuna.

Increase to PI 1.2.4; recent stock assessments have demonstrated that management advice is being applied, factors of uncertainty are being accounted for and alternative assessment approaches have been explored. 

Increase to PI 2.1.2, 2.2.2., 2.2.3; data collected FIP has been analyzed in the three-year audit indicating that there no primary species in the fishery. New information - stage 4 result.
