The FIP has updated its Code of Conduct which now includes a policy to mitigate ghost fishing.

The FIP collected observer and port sampling data from April-September 2024 within the WCPFC & IOTC areas; no ETP interactions reported.

The FIP participated in a workshop organized by DGCF-MMAF to improve fisheries statistics in Indonesia, focusing on tuna HL and PL fisheries in the WCPO and IO areas. As a follow-up, DGCF-MMAF held a stakeholders meeting to gather data on fishery items and enumerators for all fisheries, including tuna.

The FIP virtually participated in the 6th IOTC Working Group on FADs focused on reviewing and improving FAD management measures. Key outcomes included assessing existing measures, identifying research gaps, and recommending actions to strengthen enforcement and enhance regional cooperation.

The 2024 Joint Fisheries Management Committee (KPBP) meeting was held in East Nusa Tenggara; discussions addressed stock declines, data quality for policymaking, legal compliance, and capacity-building initiatives, alongside recommendations for improving collaborative efforts and operational efficiency.

The FIP participated in a fishing logbook meeting along with stakeholders to discuss the creation of technical guidance documents for the fishing logbook.

Port sampling data has been made available from October 2023- March 2024; no ETP species interactions were recorded. 

The FIP conducted an internal meeting with MSC Indonesia to further collaboration in support of preparatory meetings and to enhance data collection for the IOTC.

MDPI and AP2HI have assisted in getting 25 vessels registered in an effort to improve the quality of available data. 

FIP participants actively supported and engaged in FCMC meetings in West and East Nusa Tenggara, addressing various fisheries management topics, including data collection, capacity building for fishermen, FAD management, quota-based fisheries, industry compliance, and the significance of sharing data with local authorities

FIP participants attended a meeting with MMAF, focused on enhancing observer onboard programs in the same regions, aiming to increase the number of observers and expand their placement for better quota-based fisheries policy support.

The FIP participated in a meeting hosted by the MMAF  discussing fishing logbook evaluation and enhancement in the western and central Pacific and Indian Ocean, with plans to integrate it with E-PIT.

The new regulation 11/2023 Penangkapan Ikan Terukur has been issued by the Indonesian government to establish a quota-based fishery system;  the regulation will divide the country's waters into zones encompassing different Fisheries Management Areas (FMAs).

The FIP conducted a national cross-stakeholder forum group discussion on the management of tuna fisheries in the Indian Ocean region, which highlighted the need to increase data collection, and later participated in FCMC forums to discuss fisheries management issues, compliance, and data sharing with local government.

The FIP along with several conservation organizations, civil society groups, fisher associations and businesses offered their support for a letter that addresses the EU's lack of accountability with the use of drifting FADs; the letter highlighted the EU's obligation to apply the precautionary approach.

MMAF organized a workshop with the IOTC Secretariat and FAO to discuss the methodology that would be used to re-estimate the data from Indonesia in the IOTC.

FIP has attended several IOTC meetings on an ongoing basis

AP2HI/IPNLF continues to support NTMP implementation and have participated in several Local Co-management Tuna Committee Forum meetings in February 2022 in West Nusa Tenggara and March 2022 in East Nusa Tenggara to discuss fisheries management issues, including data collection, fisher and industry compliance and providing the data to the local government.

IPNLF has continued engagement with the IOTC from March through August 2021.

Two observer deployments occurred between April- August 2021. MMAF plans to recruit 20 new observers and have them trained by the end of 2021. 

FIP continues to implement their National Tuna Management Plan (NTMP) by submitting it’s data collection activities. 

A Forum Co-Management Committee (FCMC) was held to discuss fishery management issues including data collection and industry compliance.

In June 2021, AP2HI submitted it’s FAD and vessels data to support the FAD research to BRPL

Ministerial Regulation No.18 2021 related to Auxiliary Gear Deployment enacted; FAD regulations have been revised replacing previous Ministerial Regulation No. 26 year 2014 on Fish Aggregating Device. 

There were 2 observers deployment for September 2020 - March 2021 period for PL IO area.

New SOPs were signed by fishermen agreeing to enforce sustainable measures set by the fishery.

Observer coveraged carried on throughout the year; a total of 9 trips took place between March 2020 and September 2020. 

Compliance review at domestic and regional levels were conducted and a report was produced following the review.

A total of 48 fishing trips have been covered by an observer from August 2018 until March 2020.

AP2HI has joined MMAF training on observers in Tegal on 19th February 2020 and in North Sulawesi on 27th February 2020.

Data from the first year of onboard observer deployments shows that little to no interactions of ETPs have been evident with only one instance of an interaction regarding a sea bird. 

Indonesian government certified onboard observers have completed 1-year of observer deployments in 1st tranche UoAs.

In August 2019 MMAF hosted a meeting to review data and objectives for the draft update to the National Tuna Management Plan. 

IPNLF participated and engaged with state members at the recent 23rd Annual Session of the Indian Ocean Tuna Commissio in Hyderabad, India.

At the beginning of March 2019, MMAF hosted a review of the current National Tuna Management Plan (2015-2019) that will expire at the end of this year. 

 Trainings have happened in priority UoAs about ETPs, what they are, mitigation strategies to minimize the catch of ETPs, best practices on handling, and the legal repercussions.

ETP species identification guides have been distributed to onboard observers. 

The industry Code of Conduct that commits AP2HI member supply chains to mitigate the risk of catching ETPs and to undergo the necessary trainings is in effect and audits to the Code of Conduct will continue in Q3 2019. 

 IPNLF continues work with like-minded coastal states of the Indian Ocean through the G16 to push for allocation that recognizes the inherent sovereignty these states have over their waters. 

The FIP has updated its Code of Conduct which now includes a "Fins Naturally Attached" policy prohibiting shark finning. 

Increase to PI scores 2.2.3, 2.3.3 and 3.2.3; three-year audit has been made available. Improved data gathering processes have been employed through at sea and port sampling as well as the implementation of monitoring, control and surveillance systems.
