The FIP collected catch data from June- November 2024, recording 218 fishing trips and 99 tons of catch.

The FIP has developed a management system proposal for the barred sand bass fishery which includes a resource assessment model, fishing control tools like catch quotas and monitoring and socioeconomic support for fishing communities.

The FIP has produced a report using fisheries monitoring data and interviews with local fishermen to document the location and size of key fishing areas; the report supports analysis of fishing use and pressure.

The FIP is exploring a gear selectivity experiment. While the experiment is on hold, discussions with government scientists and fishers led to the conclusion that a further study on trap selectivity is necessary.

The FIP has held meetings with IMIPAS to align the FMP with fishery improvement objectives, highlighting the need to incorporate independent stock assessments.

A draft stock assessment from September 2024 has been made available.

The FIP held a training session to improve the use of the e-logbook, aiming to increase recorded fishing trips and enhance data quality. This led to a significant rise in recorded trips, from 109 in early 2023 to 510 in the same period in 2024.

The FIP has conducted an updated stock assessment that focuses on the improvement of the methodology. 

The FIP held a coordination meeting to discuss updates on FIP activities and outlined the 2024 work plan, including strategies for sustainable fishing, monitoring systems, and decision-making mechanisms.

Monitoring activities remain ongoing and the FIP continues to collect and report data into the logbooks.

The stock assessment was updated to utilize two new models, one based on surplus biomass production and another on stock reduction. The first model shows that in two scenarios, relative biomass remains above the reference point, the second model indicates consistent relative biomass above 1 and the third model has intermittent periods below.

The National Fishing Charter has been published; the charter suggests reducing fishing effort and proposes a temporary closure to safeguard the reproductive period.

A formal technical roundtable was established in 2023 to prioritize FMP progress based on the current needs of the fishery. 

A meeting was held between the FIP and CRIAP to facilitate areas of collaboration focused on monitoring activities.

The FIP continues to hold training workshops on the use of electronic logbooks with a focus on the information needed to evaluate the state of the fishery; a summary report of the workshop has been made available. 

A workshop was held to identify and compile information on the fishery's vulnerability and adaptation to climate change; an overview report from the workshop has been made available.

A review of the FIP work plan was carried out by the work team to identify the tasks to be carried out in the semester.

The feasibility analysis was performed to perform an analysis of environmental and ecosystem variability to assess its possible effects on the Barred Sand Bass fishery.

An analysis was made of the proportion of the catch of secondary species in the Barred Sand Bass fishery.

A meeting was held to agree on aspects of the procedure for integrating the database, and subsequently, the database was integrated with information from the fishing cooperatives and Pronatura Noroeste.
