To support the delivery of the AIP roadmap (workplan) AIP participants have:

• Initiated a water quality monitoring program in shared waters, with sampling sites along the coast of Banyuwangi, and;
• Undertaken initial training on cooperative development to improve product quality and marketing.

The project continues to increase wastewater treatment activities, including in common waterbodies.

• The AIP was officially launched in December 2022 with a ceremony held in Banyuwangi;
• Technical training events on wastewater treatment pond design were attended by large and small-scale farmers and students from a local university;
• In March 2023, the AIP held a quarterly stakeholder progress review meeting attended by the local Fisheries Department, Environment Department, supply chain companies, and both large and small-scale farmers;
• More activities to deliver the roadmap are planned for the next few months although an exact schedule will emerge after Ramadan.

• A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) has now been signed by the Regent. Partners have secured grant funding from Walmart Foundation to support the delivery of the Sustainable Shrimp Development Road Map.
• From October 2022 planning meetings will take place with government, industry, academic, and NGO stakeholders to action the various elements of the Road Map.

Constraints

• Changes in local leadership in local government and line agencies have further delayed the signing of the MoU.
• Covid-19 continues to impact the ability to hold large meetings, although the team has worked creatively to overcome this with a range of digital meetings and smaller working groups.

• The multistakeholder team has completed a workplan (roadmap) development with local stakeholders and continues to deliver training to farmers (piloting the use of digital tools to support this), and identify financing solutions to support farmers and local government to implement the roadmap going forward.
• The workplan has been shared with international buyers, but will not be considered finalized until signed by local stakeholders (and is therefore still not public).
• The lessons learned from the various aspects of the project have been shared through workshops with the government and industry for potential replication elsewhere in Indonesia.

• Covid-19 continues to impact the ability to hold large meetings, although the team has worked creatively to overcome this with a range of digital meetings and smaller working groups with local stakeholders.

• The multistakeholder team continues to deliver training to farmers, support water quality sampling, and engage in dialogues with farmers, local government, and the supply chain.
• The team continues to co-develop the next work plan with all local stakeholders, although his process is taking time, in part because of local elections.
• The draft workplan has been shared with international buyers.
• AIP representatives are active members of the Forum Udang Indonesia (the shrimp industry forum). The forum is following the development of the AIP and plan to replicate it elsewhere in the future.

Constraints

• Local elections have created delays in engagement with both farmers and government agencies.
• Covid-19 continues to impact the ability to hold large meetings, although the team has worked creatively to overcome this with a range of digital meetings and smaller working groups with local stakeholders.

• A local emergency disease response plan is being drafted
• Training programs on best practices have been delivered through the training of trainers
• Stakeholder workshops have been held to update the workplan (still in progress)
• Discussions with financiers are underway to support the future of the project
• Government engagement workshops have taken place
• Discussions on supplying shrimp to local processors continue

Constraints

COVID-19 continues to impact the opportunity for face-to-face meetings needed to workshop solutions with farmers. However, the team continues to use remote options where possible.
